On the Move

IRSGINC On The Move in Haiti
September 2019

After preparing over the last six months, IRSGINC accomplished a Major Milestone in its efforts to provide humanitarian service to the underserved population of Haiti.

On September 7, 2019, Dr. Chantal and Keith Newsome departed Tampa, Florida to Port au Prince Haiti with a mission to provide dental services at pre-approved and surveyed sites in the Northern and Southern regions of Haiti.

IRSGINC provided dental services to 112 patients during a seven a day period which included extractions, limited restorative procedures, prophylaxis, and examinations.

Fuel shortages, rioting, roadblocks and political unrest in the Haitian government caused  travel  delays.  On September 10, 2019 IRSGINC was able to depart to their staging areas for a six hour road trip to Quartier Morin in Northern Haiti.

Our first site was located in the Cap-Haïtien
Arrondissement, the "City of Cane and Distilleries"  a municipality having around 24,000 inhabitants. De Quartier Morin and Quartier Morin Ville are the other names used for Quartier-Morin.

Location on Hispaniola
The church of Quartier-Morin is placed in 1700 under the patronage of Saint Louis.

In the past, Quartier Morin, which was only a neighborhood, belonged to a great settler named "Morin". It was founded in 1780 and its date of elevation to the rank of commune is not known. It includes two communal sections. By its geographical position, it is interior, its dominant relief is the plain and its climate is normal. The inhabitants of the district of Quartier Morin are called Morinois.
