Haiti’s Demand for Quality Dental Care
The demand for quality dental care in Haiti is high. There is approximately 300 dentist serving the country’s population of more than 10 million people. Other health issues such as tuberculosis, HIV, cholera, and malnutrition take center stage while oral disease takes a back seat. Oral diseases such as tooth decay and gum disease contribute to poor nutrition and increase the chances of HIV transmission as well as heart disease and diabetes. 48-50 percent of the population live in rural areas of the country have restricted access to dental care. Many of which cannot afford a visit to a dentist. Children are the most vulnerable. A greater percentage have never been to a dentist, let alone own a toothbrush. IRSGINC strives to help improve the dental health of that particular population. Volunteers and donations are welcome.
